Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of hosting OAR's stellar volunteer crew for a night of celebration and appreciation. Year after year, this ever-expanding group of dedicated individuals show up for OAR clients and help make our community stronger, more compassionate, and a little safer. We came together to honor their work and support. We are fortunate to be able to work with such a fantastic team. Thank you, volunteers!! #oarnova #volunteersareeverything #reentry #communitysupport

April is National Volunteer Month. We are thrilled to celebrate the amazing work of our community and corporate volunteers, as well as graduate and undergraduate interns that serve in Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties. Volunteers and interns are essential partner's and resources within each of OAR's programs. Their commitment to working as a team to achieve our mission of rebuilding lives by creating safer communities with opportunities, alternatives, and resources is critical to our success. Please join us in our sincere THANKS to all the corporate and community volunteers who graciously assist our staff and program participants throughout the year. If you haven't yet, make sure to RSVP to Thursday's Volunteer Appreciation Dinner by tomorrow!! Click here for details and to RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/gfhqu3h3

Reentry services are a crucial element of a successful post-incarceration transition back in to the community. Having a comprehensive plan ahead of release can go a long way to improving a person’s circumstances after they return home. Here’s a link to the VADOC website with various reentry resources. If you have a loved one in jail or prison, and they are thinking about what life will be like post-release, reentry planning and reentry services can make it easier! reentry-resource-packet-2023.pdf (virginia.gov)

April once again marks Second Chance Month, both in Virginia and nationally. Designed as a way to increase media attention on reentry and reentry issues, at OAR we view Second Chance Month as an opportunity to educate about the reentry process, but also to highlight the resources we provide, so that in case someone in your life has been justice-impacted and needs assistance, they know we are available. Look out for further posts later in the month addressing different elements of the reentry process, and how our programs are designed to assist in that journey, and check out the links in our Instagram bio for regional and national info on reentry resources available in your area. The National Reentry Resource Center has events that start today, so check them out if you’re in the area or available for one of their webinars! #reentry #secondchancemonth
